Captains Courageous: a Story of the Grand Banks
Rudyard Kipling
Captains Courageous is the adventure story of Harvey Cheyne, spoilt son of an American billionaire. On a voyage across the Atlantic Ocean, the young man goes overboard and is saved by fishermen from Newfoundland. The men don't believe the story of Harvey's wealth and treat him like one of their own. Harvey has to work hard and live the life of an ordinary fisher. At first, he is unable to cope with the new challenges, but finally he becomes stronger and learns to judge life from a different perspective. Rudyard Kipling was born in 1865 in Bombay as son of an Anglo-American family. At the age of five, he was taken to England where he was educated. He returned to India as a young man and started working as a journalist and novelist. His most popular fictional works were The Jungle Book (1894) and Kim (1901). In 1907 Kipling was the youngest and first English author to receive the Nobel Price for literature. He died in London in 1936.
