Strain of Evil

It happened so long ago, there was little record of the First Devastation. When it happened again, the population of modern Gira knew it as a lethal biological event on a planetary scale. Fearing extinction, those who survived sought to identify their genetic resistance as the foundation for a new and stronger world. Guided by the edicts of the Council on Genetic Advancement, founded by the genius Hurgen Bolens, each successive generation improved upon the one before through conscious selection of the desired genetic traits. Now, after seven generations, three friends begin military careers and answer the call of a society that demands survival beyond a new and growing threat. Jerrik, Den, and Liselle are compelled to join the fight against the Undesirables, a people who threaten all that Gira has achieved by rejecting the Council mandates and living according to the ways of an ancient cult. Can one's future be changed when the path is determined at birth? Where does one place their faith when the foundations of society fall?
